What better way to spend dark and rainy/snowy evenings than with your family crafting some fun DIY projects at home? I have compilated four creative recipes that are easy to make, taste and smell delicious, and will make bath and wash up time extra exciting and fun. These recipes use food grade ingredients and are as safe as they can get, good luck trying not to eat the cranberry sugar scrub or the cacao honey mask! This could also be a great idea for homemade christmas gifts.

CRANBERRY BODY POLISH

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 CUP FINE SUGAR

  • 1/4 CUP FRESH CRANBERRIES

  • 1/4 CUP MELTED COCONUT OIL

  • 25 DROPS ORANGE OR MANDARIN ESSENTIAL (OPTIONAL)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Puré the cranberries.

  2. Add the coconut oil and sugar and blend together.

  3. Add essential oils if using.

  4. Scoop into an airtight jar and label with name and date.

  5. Use within a week.

FACTS:

Cranberries are incredibly high in polyphenols and Vitamins C and E, which effectively fight free radicals to minimize the visible signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and loss of elasticity. Cranberries are often used in beauty and skin care products to treat dryness, boost radiance and improve elasticity. I mean, this scrub is soo decadent and luxurious, it is pretty gentle on the skin in a sense of the scrub effect, but the beautiful vitamins and antioxidants will leave your skin smooth and fresh and so so hydrated!

PEPPERMINT FOOT/BATH SOAK

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 CUP EPSOM SALT

  • 1 CUP SEA SALT

  • 30 DROPS PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

  3. For a relaxing, muscle melting bath, add a 1/2 cup of the mixture to your bath water while tapping up the tub.

FACTS:

Mint has a lot of benefits for the skin and body - most famously for its pain relieving properties. Mint can help soothe migraine headaches, tired and aching muscles, period cramps, and stomach cramps and bloating. The essential oil is known to promote deep relaxation in the body and the mind, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, while also reduce inflammation, and help stimulate hair growth.

CACAO CARROT FACE MASK

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 TBSP RAW CACAO POWDER

  • 1 TBSP CARROT JUICE (START WITH ONE AND ADD MORE AS NEEDED)

  • 1 TSP RAW HONEY

  • 1 TSP MELTED COCONUT OIL

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Start by pressing the juice from a couple of carrots - or if you dont own a juicer use an organic carrot juice from the grocery store.

  2. In a small glass bowl or cup add the cacao butter and a tbsp at a time add the carrot juice and mix until you have a smooth paste. Mix in the honey last and coconut oil last.

  3. This mask can get a little messy (or at least when i’m using it lol) so don’t ware anything white. Apply the mask to clean skin with a brush or applicator. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water or a face cloth.

  4. Finish with a spritz of toner or floral water and some moisturizer.

  5. Store your mask in the fridge for up to a week.

FACTS:

The beta carotene in carrots is a skin-loving nutrient that gets converted to vitamin A inside the body. It helps repair skin tissues while also protecting skin from harmful radiation. High in flavonoids and antioxidants, cacao helps protect and repair skin from premature aging and damage, improve the skin's complexion, increase the elasticity of the skin, and help reduce appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and scars.

Eucalyptus not only smells heavenly, it also helps ease congestion and lung irritation, halts fungal infections, helps you breath easier, repels pests, is anti-microbial, and freshens and purifies the air. Eucalyptus also helps decrease pain, promote relaxation, and relieve cold symptoms. Many over-the-counter products actually use eucalyptus extract for its medicinal properties.
